Programs Offered

At the Lighthouse Dyslexia Center we offer the Davis Dyslexia Correction Program® that was created by Ron Davis, the author of The Gift of Dyslexia.

The First Step

Call the Lighthouse Dyslexia Center at 817-426-4442 to arrange a consultation and assessment. This appointment lasts approximately 2 hours and is preferably conducted prior to beginning the program. The assessment will determine if the Davis Program will successfully address the client’s learning difficulties by assessing:

  • The client’s ability to perceive multi-dimensionally
  • The client’s needs, goals, level of motivation, and the appropriateness of the program for the client.
  • An informal reading inventory is also completed to allow the facilitator to select the appropriate reading level materials for use during the program.

The program can then be tailored to meet the client’s goals using the information gained from this assessment.

The Davis Dyslexia Correction Program

The program week is an intense, one-on-one program that is normally conducted from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday with a lunch break from 12:00 to 1:00 each day. An adult must be available for children during lunch.

  • Short breaks are taken throughout the day to allow the client process information.
  • The client is encouraged to bring snacks and decaffeinated drinks to enjoy on breaks. A refrigerator is available.

The Program week includes:

  • Five consecutive days of one-on-one facilitation.
  • Support training for client’s families and/or tutors on the fifth day to ensure post-program follow-up and success.
  • All necessary take-home materials for program follow-up.
  • Six hours of one-on-one tutoring.
  • Unlimited phone consultations.
  • Documentation for schools, if needed.

Davis™ Reading Program for Young Learners

The Best Start: Young learners deserve the best start we can give them. Strong research evidence suggests that children who are exposed to Davis methods at pre-reading or primary level (age 5-7) benefit in the following ways:

  • They are highly unlikely to develop a learning difficulty.
  • They are significantly more likely to qualify for gifted program referrals.
  • Their basic word recognition will be among the highest levels expected for their age group.

The Davis™ Reading Program for Young Learners is an individualized learning enhancement program with a licensed and trained Davis Facilitator. Its mission is to give children aged 5-7 the best possible start at the outset of their learning career. Its aims are:

  • to provide lifelong learning skills to younger children through a partnership between Facilitator, child and parent(s)
  • to give one or both of the child's parents, or a support person, sufficient confidence and skill to continue working with the Davis Young Learner's Kit after the program
  • to provide children with the conceptual skills needed to develop reading fluency and comprehension.

The Davis™ Reading Program for Young Learners provides important tools to beginning readers. Through the unique partnership philosophy of the program, parents or other family members gain the skills needed to provide the child with ongoing quality support. This is a 36 hour program; in which, the Facilitator will schedule 30 hours of time with the student; at least half or more of the program time will also include the parent or support person participating in helping the child with the new skills and techniques. Six hours of one-on-one tutoring is included following the program to ensure continued success.

As part of the program, students will always receive the Davis Young Learner Kit for Home Use, to be used at home to follow up with the program.

The Program includes:

  • Ten 3-hours session given on consecutive days, usually 9:00 am - 12:00 or 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm .
  • Support training with the client’s families and/or tutors for at least half of the program to ensure post-program follow-up and success.
  • All necessary take-home materials for program follow-up.
  • Six hours of one-on-one tutoring.
  • Unlimited phone consultations.
  • Documentation for schools, if needed.
